Both the training and the early cutscenes imply that you're going to need to resort to stealth to successfully navigate the first mission. If you skip the plot, you'll miss this part and probably just go in shooting, which is actually the only practical way to approach the game. It appears that the developers planned to incorporate some sneaking elements into Soldier of Fortune II and then somewhere along the line gave up--but then never managed to completely remove the essentially nonfunctioning stealth features. Along with explosive grenades, the computer opponents have some ability to use flashbangs, though they're a bit less successful with these. Sometimes it appears as if they're actually coordinating an attack by throwing a flashbang at you and then advancing through the cover of smoke. Other times, they'll toss a flashbang two feet away from themselves and in the opposite direction of your position. Still, it adds an interesting wild card to the combat. You'll quickly learn to run as soon as you hear the clinking sound of a bouncing grenade. Since the AI tends to run from grenades as well, you'll sometimes be sprinting neck and neck with a fleeing enemy soldier, both of you temporarily united in your desire to escape the impending explosion.

Để đạt được sự tin tưởng của JBA, Sam phải thực hiện một số nhiệm vụ do tổ chức này đề ra và không được sơ hở khi thực hiện các nhiệm vụ của NSA. Việc đầu tiên là phải bắn hạ viên phi công Cole Yeager. Nếu Cole chết, JBA sẽ tin tưởng Sam hơn, nhưng đồng thời anh ta lại bị NSA nghi ngờ “trở mặt”, và ngược lại. Hành động như thế nào là tùy bạn, nhưng đôi khi để đạt được mục đích lớn hơn, người ta lại phải gạt bỏ những cái nhỏ... Vả lại, khi đã rơi vào tay bọn khủng bố, thì trước sau gì Cole cũng cầm chắc cái chết

Lòng tin của 2 tổ chức được biểu hiện đồng thời qua Trust System. Hệ thống này hoạt động khá nhạy, tạo nên sự khác biệt so với 3 phiên bản trước (Sam vốn chỉ là “Thiên lôi”, NSA “chỉ đâu đánh đó”). Những yêu cầu, những mục tiêu trái ngược nhau giữa JBA và NSA luôn đặt Sam vào những tình huống dở khóc dở cười. Nếu không tự quyết định được, bạn hãy save trước khi hành động và đi theo cả 2 hướng. Nên nhớ: trung thành tuyệt đối với NSA thì sẽ bị “lột mang”, còn quá thân thiết với JBA thì sẽ nằm trong danh sách “most wanted” (bị truy nã). Bởi vậy, cố gắng trung hòa cả 2 phe là biện pháp “hạ cánh” an toàn cho một điệp viên hai mang.

Giã từ đêm tối

Điểm khác biệt của SC4 so với các phiên bản trước là sự vắng mặt của thanh đo ánh sáng (thanh đo âm thanh vừa mới “chào đời” ở bản 3 Chaos Theory cũng không xuất hiện). Thanh đo ánh sáng là một yếu tố rất thú vị trong các phiên bản trước, khi mà Sam len lỏi chủ yếu trong bóng tối. Còn giờ đây, “bóng tối không còn là bạn của Sam nữa”, do anh ta thường xuyên hoạt động trong các vùng có ánh sáng cực tốt (không tính bị đèn chiếu vào) nên sự xóa bỏ thanh đo ánh sáng cũng phần nào hợp lý và góp phần tăng độ khó cho game. Làm việc cho cả NSA và JBA, Sam còn “tối” với phe nào được nữa? Có chăng, đó chỉ là những hành động “mờ ám” mà thôi!

Thay vì liên tục nhìn thanh đo ánh sáng, bạn sẽ phải chú ý nhiều hơn đến cảnh vật xung quanh để tìm chỗ ẩn nấp. Theo đó, phong cách hành động cũng gắn sát với thực tế nhiều hơn, tất nhiên là khó hơn. Fan của SC chắc chắn sẽ rất bỡ ngỡ và bối rối trước kiểu chơi mới này. Nhưng sau khi chơi qua 2-3 màn, nhất là màn huấn luyện ở căn cứ JBA, khi thực hiện các nhiệm vụ mà NSA giao phó, có lẽ bạn sẽ làm quen được với sự thay đổi. Cũng không quá khó đấy chứ? Còn nếu bạn là lính mới, từng chơi qua các game có dạng “nửa sáng nửa tối” như F.E.A.R thì sao? Rất đơn giản, kiểu chơi mới cũng chả là gì cả, chỉ khác là phải hết sức chú ý để không bị địch phát hiện, vì khi trúng đạn là chuẩn bị... load game.

Dù vậy, thanh đo ánh sáng đã được chuyển đổi thành “đèn giao thông” trên lưng Sam báo hiệu trạng thái: màu xanh lục là đang ở tình trạng an toàn, màu vàng là có khả năng bị địch phát hiện, còn màu đỏ ư? Sam nằm gọn trong tầm bắn của đối phương! Nguyên tắc để thành công trong phiên bản này vẫn không thay đổi - đừng để bị phát hiện và tránh va chạm nếu không cần thiết.

Các thao tác trong game hầu như không có sự thay đổi bao nhiêu. Kiểu chơi mới làm khác hẳn với phong cách “rình rập” đầy thụ động. Cùng với sự cải thiện đáng kể về tầm nhìn và trí thông minh AI của máy, Sam sẽ phải di chuyển nhanh hơn, phán đoán thời cơ và tính toán thời điểm hành động chính xác hơn. Ảnh hưởng đến thao tác trong game nhiều nhất chính là sự thay đổi về giao diện thao tác (mở/đóng cửa, lựa chọn vũ khí): tuy nhanh và đẹp nhưng rất khó thực hiện chính xác và hơi khó điều khiển.

Các màn chơi cũng khá rộng rãi, thường có 2-3 đường để di chuyển từ điểm A sang điểm B: đường “lộ thiên” (dễ bị lính gác phát hiện nhất, bởi ai cũng có thể đi được), đường dây treo và đường ống. Ngoại trừ đường “lộ thiên”, hai đường còn lại đòi hỏi người chơi phải chịu khó quan sát mới thấy được. Mặt khác, do game không có bản đồ cụ thể nên bạn phải ghi nhớ vị trí, khung cảnh trong màn chơi để tránh quay về chốn cũ nhiều lần.
Những đoạn kết định mệnh
Splinter Cell: Double Agent đang tạo ra bước ngoặt mới khi từ bỏ lối chơi thụ động, khiến nhiều fan phải choáng váng trước một phong cách rất năng động. Đổi mới để không bị xoáy vào lối mòn, đổi mới để tạo sự khác biệt. Review
The Club có lối chơi (fast-paced run and gun) rất sôi động và cuồng nhiệt, đòi hỏi người chơi phải tập trung cao độ ngay khi bắt đầu 1 màn chơi.
Một tổ chức bao gồm những tay súng cừ khôi chuyên thực hiện những nhiệm vụ nguy hiểm, được biết đến với cái tên The Club (TC). TC có 1 tay thư ký chuyên nhận và chuyển hợp đồng đến 8 tay súng thành viên. Người chơi sẽ chọn 1 trong 8 nhân vật này (lúc đầu chỉ chọn được 6/8 nhân vật). Những nhân vật này tuy có rất nhiều điểm khác nhau nhưng có 1 điểm chung là đã từng vượt qua hàng trăm trận đấu thập tử nhất sinh.

TC là game bắn súng có góc nhìn từ người thứ 3, game có cách chơi thật đơn giản nhưng không hề “dễ nuốt” tí nào. Nhiệm vụ ở mỗi màn hầu như chỉ có mỗi việc phóng như bay trên các con đường, nhắm bắn đối thủ và hoàn thành màn chơi ở lối thoát cuối màn.
Vì sao bạn phải phóng như “điên” và bắn loạn xạ như thế? Điều này hoàn toàn dễ hiểu khi bạn biết rằng game có hệ thống chấm điểm “combo” cực kỳ khó chịu. Mỗi khi bạn bắn trúng mục tiêu sẽ được 1 điểm thưởng (combo), nhưng điểm này sẽ tuột dần theo từng giây, tổng cộng bạn có khoảng 8 giây để hạ mục tiêu thứ 2 trước khi mất 1 điểm quý giá. Khi bạn chạm đến cánh cửa cuối mỗi màn thì số điểm tổng cộng của bạn sẽ là điểm thưởng cộng với lượng máu còn lại và một số thông tin về độ chính xác khi bắn, số điểm combo cao nhất bị mất...

Đầu mỗi màn, game đều cung cấp danh sách thứ hạng và điểm đạt được của 8 tay súng trong mỗi màn. TC có 4 mục chơi khá hấp dẫn là: Tournament, Single Event, Gunplay và Multiplayer; người chơi phải hoàn thành Tournament trước. Game có tất cả 8 địa điểm, mỗi địa điểm lại chia ra từ 6 đến 7 màn chơi nhỏ.

CT là một game hành động đòi hỏi người chơi phải xử lý tình huống, phản xạ cực nhanh, lại phải liên tục chạy theo diễn tiến của trò chơi không ngừng nghỉ từ lúc bắt đầu đến lúc kết thúc màn. Có thể nói TC tương tự như game “bắn vịt” trên máy Nintendo khi xưa, nhưng khó và chi tiết hơn nhiều. Hình ảnh trong game rất đẹp và được hỗ trợ bằng những đoạn phim ngắn cực kỳ hấp dẫn, không thua kém gì các đoạn phim hành động của Hollywood. Âm thanh rất lôi cuốn nhờ các bản nhạc nền sôi động, giọng lồng tiếng được thể hiện rất tốt và làm nổi bật tính cách của từng nhân vật. Hệ thống vũ khí của TC cũng hấp dẫn không kém khi cung cấp 18 loại vũ khí khác nhau. Hệ thống chơi mạng của game cũng rất phong phú.

TC là game khá bạo lực, cách chơi buộc bạn phải di chuyển liên tục nên rất dễ nhức đầu, hoa mắt nếu chưa từng chơi qua thể loại game hành động và khó tránh khỏi cảm giác... chán.
